Mitch Henson – The Backstory

Mitch Henson was born in Woodruff, South Carolina where he possessed a creative spirit at an early age. Torn between passion and practicality, he attended the College of Charleston to study art and biology. After graduation, Mitch continued to live in Charleston to explore his artistic direction by experimenting in various genres and mediums, creating enough work to eventually participate in various art exhibits. In 2005, Mitch was drawn to live among the artistic energy of Los Angeles, inspired by the abundance of fine art galleries and the burgeoning contemporary art scene.

Since that time, Mitch has honed his work, developing several series while also taking on commissioned graphic design projects for clients such as Trader Joes, for whom he worked more than a decade.  He continues to create in multiple genres and mediums, using drawing, painting, graphic design, and 3D assembly of various materials to complete a wide assortment of work. His experiences include assisting in conceptualizing ideas, character design, logo design, illustration, painting murals, hand lettering, and sculpture. He enjoys the creative process in bringing an idea to reality, whether it is from his imagination or from someone who needs help materializing their vision.

Working hard to stand out in the most artist-populated city in the world, he  has been successful in creating a unique look to his work through employment of a few signature techniques, limiting his color palette, and using distortion to paint images as if viewed through a fish-eye lens. This unique perspective has brought him to the attention of multiple gallerists and art dealers along with new representation in the contemporary online gallery ArtExcellence on the boutique art platform OMNIpresenti.com

Mitch is focused on the big picture, hoping to expand his exhibit schedule to other major art cities in 2023. His current and ongoing series “Perpetual Summer” pays homage to the sunshine, beaches, and SoCal lifestyle, but undoubtedly it elicits a smile to all who view it no matter their location.  Through symbolism, surrealism, and attention to quirky detail, his work shines in a unique and contemporary style sure to keep turning heads.
